On my dad’s side of the family I am Shinnecock Indian and I practiced Native American spirituality as one of my spiritual paths. For a time, my ministry was hosting women’s womb healing circles and retreats. There is very powerful medicine contained within the circle when women come together to heal. We all wear skirts and the circle is made sacred by burning sage which cleanses away all negativity and inviting Great Spirit in with prayers. A talking stick is passed around and each woman who holds the stick will share what it is her womb was was saying. For me and women who have been violated in our wombs, it was a safe place to release trauma and pain. Our wombs are sacred and healing was necessary because not only were our wombs violated but so were our spirits.

Today there is nothing more powerful than a woman who is doing spiritual work to heal from the trauma her womb has endured.
